Intro

There is no question that Hispanic Business has made a transition to the virtual world. With over 70% of consumers using online resources to find what they are looking for, it makes sense to step up your online presence. Many business owners have a website, an email address, and may have even started blogging (hopefully inspired by the Blogging 101 article!!!). Those brave and savvy enough to leave the traditional mixers and schmoozers have found a home online with social networking.

There is definitely no shortage of Hispanic specific online communities that boast bigger and better features for their members. With so many options it's easy to get confused, turned off, or just flat out overwhelmed by it all. Many professionals argue the effectiveness of these social sites and understandably so. The questions remain; Are Hispanic Social Networks beneficial? I have no idea what I am doing, How do I create a profile?

The answer is yes Networking is key to opening up your true professional potential. Here is a brief guide to making the most out of social networking.

Which Site Should I Use? -Sites like Myspace and Facebook can get you in front of potential buyers or sellers but you have to wade through a lot of trash. Twitter is an emerging social network with great potential - register for our webinar about how you can use Twitter for business. Of course MHN is a great resource for all Hispanic professionals.

Where Do I Start? - I realize that there are some Hispanics out there that are flat out scared of their computer let alone setting up and managing an online profile. The first step is to find the LOGIN/SIGN UP page. Realize these sites will require your email and your birthday which we all are hesitant in sharing but it is important for these sites to comply with internet policies. After you set up your profile be sure to upload your photo, a business logo or some other picture. If you have no picture attached to your profile no one is going to want to ADD you! Be sure to put a bio or an "about me" piece on your page so people can identify what it is you do. After that, start finding friends to add.

Hmmm. Now what? - Social networking requires dedication. Most people set up a profile and then forget to go back to the site, to add friends, or to make use of it at all. Social networks are effective when you utilize them to the fullest. Your first objective in making your profile work for your business is to add friends; this virtual intro may take a little time but is well worth it if you are looking to grow your network. The second order of business is to use the site as your marketing resource. You should be active in posting blogs, commenting on profiles, and advertising your business.

How Many Sites Should I Be On? - My advice is to be on as many social networking sites as you can manage. Most sites will alert you when you have a message or friend request so it should be easy to stay on top of your profile. For those with limited time, pick the networking site that seems to be the best fit for you and really try to grow your network on the one site you can commit to.

More Tips -
1) Consider how many members an online community has. There is strength in numbers and more business!
2) Block and delete members who are sending you junk. Don't let people waste your time.
3) Place your social networking links on your website. This can increase consumer leads.
4) Add relevant content to your profile. Add your listings, videos, and anything else that can help boost business.
5) Log on to your favorite social networking sites and ADD ME!
